From now until the trial of Keffe D, now scheduled for August of next year, I will do my best to provide regular updates.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

That will include introducing\u00a0you to some of the case’s main players.<\/p>\n

Introducing: Judge Carli Kierny<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

After ten years of working as a Clark County public defender, Carli Kierny became a judge for the Nevada 8th Judicial District Court 2 in 2021.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

She became one of seven female public defenders<\/a> to be elected in Clark County.<\/p>\n

Judges are supposed to be objective, but observers see that the wave of public defenders cum judges will result in rulings more favorable to defendants.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

And while there is a lot in the news about appointed judges, Judge Kierny did have to run.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Her opponents included incumbent Judge Richard Scotti.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

You won’t believe what he did that helped him get shown the door.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In a fit of judicial NSFW rage he threw a pocket<\/a> Constitution during jury selection.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The case involved an accused child rapist. That conviction was overturned because of Judge Scotti breaking bad.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

From all I have seen, Judge Kierny has been calm and even-handed in court.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Even when Keffe D has spoken out of turn.\u00a0 And he has done that more than once.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Something that I have not seen while covering courts around the world.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Despite Keffe’s lack of decorum, the judge has not even thrown shade.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Keep an eye on how she rules on motions by the defense. Recently, Keffe’s new lawyers filed a motion to dismiss everything taken during the 2023 search warrant because it was served after 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0That’s forbidden unless\u00a0there’s a good reason.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Then the defense withdrew that motion.\u00a0<\/p>\n
